Curve Magazine: Megan Rapinoe, Sinead O’Connor, and Melissa Etheridge Shine in Our Latest Issue!

In the final quarter of 2023, we present you with the last Curve quarterly for this year! And we thank you in advance for reading. We started this particular publishing initiative to give The Curve Foundation, its efforts and achievements, journalistic coverage while connecting the current day Curve community to the milestones of Curve magazine’s three-decade history.

And in this digital issue, we see the year out with a bang! I was absolutely delighted to collaborate with the former long-serving editor-in-chief of Curve to mine her memories of the late Sinéad O’Connor—who famously came out as a lesbian on the cover of Curve! I think I can say we were all hard-hit by the Irish singer’s untimely death, but I also felt immensely proud that Curve had been a part of embracing O’Connor’s fluidity and complexity. And I felt vindicated that in its reporting Curve had set a benchmark for lesbian media all those years ago, in a sea of uncertainty, opposition, and change.

It also gave me great pleasure to collaborate with former Curve sports writer Lyndsey D’Arcangelo to sum up the meaning of soccer star and activist Megan Rapinoe in this, the year of her retirement. And of course, Melissa Etheridge is having a hell of a 30-year celebration with her trifecta of album, memoir and Broadway stage show, which I was thrilled to attend.

Also in this issue we celebrate the power of our Archive. Did you know that Curve had the world’s first lesbian youth column? And please check out our digital exhibit featuring our three award-winning journalists, who have carried on important work for queer women everywhere
