Collect & Connect: Curve Archive Celebration in Houston
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the Curve magazine archive and LGBTQ+ history with us on Sunday, October 13, at Pearl Bar! This event marked the start of a new Curve magazine archive at the University of Houston Libraries as part of their LGBTQ+ History Research Collection.
We were especially honored to be joined by special guests Texas State Rep. Ann Johnson, Senator Molly Cook, and former Mayor of Houston Annise Parker.
The event was filled with joy and warmth as we collected magazines and oral histories to be preserved in the University of Houston Libraries. Thanks to the efforts of Julia Rosenzweig, The Curve Foundation’s Archive & Outreach Manager, Joyce Gabiola, the LGBTQ+ History Research Collections Librarian, and archivist and volunteer Dafne Meza Flores.
In addition, we enjoyed mouthwatering BBQ from fourth-generation Houston pitmaster Sloan Rinaldi of Texas Q and Netflix’s Barbecue Showdown Season 3, and hosted lively lesbian trivia and electrifying drag king performances. It truly was a celebration to remember!
Thank you to our partners—Airbnb, the Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation, the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce, Pearl Bar, Texas Q, and the University of Houston Libraries—for making this event possible.
If you couldn’t make the event, don’t worry! You can still send in your magazines to help us preserve this important history. Mail your magazines directly to the University of Houston here:
